Plan for Achieving Self-Support
Definition
What Is A Plan For Achieving Self-Support
(PASS)?
The Plan for Achieving Self-Support, or PASS for short, is for people receiving SSI disability or Social Security disability benefits. It’s a plan for your future. It lets you set aside money and/or other things you own to help you reach an employment goal.
Many people receiving or applying for disability payments want to work, and you're probably one of them. But, maybe you need to go back to school before you can get a job. Or, maybe you'd like to start your own business, but you don't have the money. A PASS can help you reach goals like these. For example, you could set aside money to start a business, go to school, or get training for a job.
Your goal must be a job that will pay enough to reduce your dependency on disability payments. A PASS is meant to help you acquire items, services, or skills you need so that you can compete for an entry-level job in a professional, business, or trade environment.
Contact your local Social Security office to find out whether a PASS is appropriate for you.
