Commissioner's Message 11/2/99
|
To: All SSA Employees
Subject: In Memoriam, Arthur and Marie Simermeyer
It is with great sorrow that I must inform you that former SSA employees
Art and Marie Simermeyer are presumed dead following the EgyptAir
Flight 990 crash Sunday morning.
Art served for 38 years with SSA, and Marie worked here for several
years before leaving for family responsibilities. As many of you
know, Art contributed significantly to the agency's success. Art
began his long career as a claims rep in New Rochelle, N.Y., and
later served as a senior executive in the Bureau of SSI, the Bureau
of Disability Insurance, the Office of Systems and the Office of
Central Operations. He was the executive in charge of the launch
of the agency's 800 number system in 1988, and was also instrumental
in implementing the agency's Systems Modernization Plan.
Art and Marie leave many friends among both former and current SSA
employees,
and I join all of you who knew them in expressing our heartfelt
sympathies
to the Simermeyer family.
Kenneth S. Apfel,
Commissioner of Social Security |
