65th Anniversary- 1995
As part of the ceremonies, Commissioner Apfel presented the Library
with an inscribed silver trowel, in keeping with the theme of Social
Security as An American Cornerstone. Shown, left to right: Cynthia
Koch, Director of the FDR Library, accepting the donation; Anna Eleanor
Roosevelt, granddaughter of the President, representing the Roosevelt
family; Social Security Commissioner, Kenneth Apfel; SSA Historian,
Larry DeWitt; and Jim Roosevelt, grandson of the President, also representing
the Roosevelt family at the event.
The trowel and a 65th anniversary commemorative pin are
now on display as part of the Library's exhibit on Social
Security.
