When we make a decision on your claim, we send you a notice explaining our decision. If you don't agree with a decision we made, follow the process to request a change. You can appeal – that is, ask us to reconsider a decision you don’t agree with.
Request a disability reconsideration: If you applied for Social Security or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) disability benefits and were denied for medical reasons, you may request an appeal online.
Request a non-medical reconsideration: Non-medical requests are for decisions that aren’t connected to a disability. You may also request an appeal online.
If you do not wish to appeal online, you should submit:
- Form SSA-561, Request for Reconsideration;
- If you are requesting reconsideration of a medical decision, also submit Form SSA-827, Authorization to Disclose Information to the Social Security Administration;
